Dear Matthew,
Of course I remember you. Thank you so much for letting me know about Prof. Cheyette. Fred was a teacher who, in all sorts of ways, made a real difference in my life. His advice on how to select a research topic stays with me: ‘How do you know when you’ve found the right topic? Well, how do you know when you’ve fallen in love?’ That attitude perhaps explains the unapologetic enthusiasm Fred brought to his topic, the seriousness, but also the warm welcome for anyone who shared his particular passion. RIP.
